Steps
- Install latest Xcode from App Store
- Install Java if not already
- Utilities | Java Preferences
- If not installed it will ask if you'd like to install it.
- Install MacPorts
- Download installer for the version of Mac OS X
- Open DMG and install MacPorts
- Configure MacPorts
- Close and reopen Terminal
- Install Wine with MacPorts
- OR
- Note This usually takes a long time (~1 hour) to install all the dependencies.

MacPorts is package management systems used to install free and open source softwares. MacPorts was earlier called DarwinPorts and is itself open source software written in Tcl and C programming language. Current version of MacPorts is 2.3.3.
MacPorts is hosted on Mac OS Forge, which was created by Apple for third party projects.
MacPorts is available for OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, OS X 10.9 Mavericks and OS X 10.10 Yosemite. To install MacPorts on your Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite, please follow these below steps.
Step 1: If you do not have Xcode installed in your mac, open App Store and search for “Xcode” and install.
Step 2: Open your Terminal and to agree to Xcode License, type the following command in the terminal
Press space to go to bottom of the agreement and then type “agree” to accept the license terms.
Step 3: Download macPorts for your mac from here. If you are running older version of Mac OS X (eg.

), then download macports from here.
Step 4: Double click on the file you downloaded in step 3 to run it.
Step 5: Follow the screen instruction to complete the set up and type your mac password when prompted.
